THE ETERNALS IV: THE BIG APPLE

The last we saw of Cassandra and Steve, or once upon a time referred to as Akhenaten and Nefertiti, they were on the front porch of the house in the city of rebirth.  Cassandra was hugging Steve thinking of puddles and Steve was hugging her back thinking of making it rain.  They turned to step off the porch and that’s when Cassandra saw him standing across the street and just glaring at them with pure malice.  Cassandra hadn’t recalled seeing such a thing since her full memory hadn’t returned but Steve knew exactly who and what it was…

Standing across the street maliciously glaring at them was Sinister Seth in all his diabolical glory.  Staring with his blood stained eyes and skeletal mouth that seemed to be dripping blood from a recent meal.  As Cassandra screamed, Steve held her close and told her, “Don’t worry, he won’t be a problem at all.  This is to be expected whenever we leave the city of protection.  The rebirthing is always away from the city of protection so we prepare for these occurrences.”  Cassandra said, “What occurrences!?” as they both stared at the clown and Steve held her closer.  “That Cassandra, is a diabolical servant of The Dark Overlord from the underworld who has a vendetta against us Eternals.  That creature is known as a clown.”  Cassandra stared at the hideous clown and said, “The Dark Overlord! Oh Steve!”  Cassandra couldn’t help wondering why Steve sort of giggled.  Then he said, “I told you that you will always be protected now watch.”

As Cassandra watched and almost before Steve could finish saying the word watch, The Eternal who Cassandra had come to know as Tammy swooped down from the sky like a Hawk in the knight behind Sinister Seth and seemed to pierce his entire upper torso centering on his heart with a golden spear as blood gushed from Sinister Seth’s mouth.  Cassandra heard the clown say, ‘no’ in a gruff and garbled tone as Tammy laughed and then leaned into Sinister Seth’s ear and spoke to his dying body.  Tammy whispered in his ear in her own maniacal and sinister enjoyment at slaying this particular clown, “Tell him again I said no.”  Steve himself knew what Tammy was saying because he knew of Tammy’s relationship with The Dark Lord and knew the Lord of the underworld wanted nothing but the possession of Tammy in his realm.

Tammy relished killing this particular clown and returning him to the underworld for good because even though he looked different, she knew it was him.  She felt it in her heart and knew that Sinister Seth on the end of her golden spear was none other than Ramesses the II, one of her previous husbands and a former Eternal himself.  As he slumped to the ground with the spear still in his chest, she lifted her foot and placed it on his back and then kicked him off her spear with complete detest and satisfaction.  His lifeless body burst into a cloud of luminescent dust as he perished back into the underworld from which he came.

Tammy walked over to Steve and Cassandra as Cassandra gaped at her friend and protector who seemed to fly from the sky.  Tammy said, “Don’t worry Cassandra, your full memory should return soon. As Steve told you, nothing’s going to happen to you.”  Cassandra hugged her friend, protector, and mentor and then whispered in Tammy’s ear, “I love you.”  Tammy said, “I know.”

Steve said, “Okay you two, break up the love fest. We have a flight to catch.”  The headed to the airport as Tammy told Steve, “I told you they were going to make their move after the choosing.”  Steve replied, “You were right. Good thing we staged it so you could strike like you did.”  Tammy laughed and said, “Oh please, they could have come however they wanted too. You know I have never let any Eternal be harmed during a rebirthing. I know The Dark Lord and his clown servants all too well.”  Steve smirked and with a knowing smile said, “Yes; you do!” Tammy replied, “Watch it Akhenaten.”

They arrived at the airport in the city of rebirthing and bypassed the exit to the terminal.  The proceeded to the Executive Tower to catch their private plane from the Executive terminal reserved for those who owned their own aircraft.  Cassandra stared in awe as their car pulled right up to the largest airplane she had ever seen with the name emblazoned on the side in huge red letters that said, “The Eternity”.  Steve smiled and hugged Cassandra and informed her that the tribe owned the plane and it was the only way they traveled.  He explained to Cassandra that even she herself was a billionaire a million times over since the tribe as a whole had been consolidating their wealth since even before Egypt and before the concept of money even existed.

On the plane ride, Steve informed Cassandra that they were headed to their true home in the city were all Eternals lived.  They were headed to New York.  He then explained that an Eternal had actually given the city its nickname of ‘The Big Apple’ in reference to the Garden of Eden and the original home of their first mother as told in the ancient story of Adam and Eve.  Steve also told Cassandra that The Big Apple was safe and protected from any diabolical clown or any type of interference whatsoever by The Dark Lord due to a great talisman that was built an Eternal himself in France many years ago and sent over the United States under the guise of a ‘gift’.  He explained that the talisman called The Statue of Liberty was actually sent over to establish a safe haven for all Eternals and was manufactured with specific powers of The Eternals to ward off and defend against the Dark Lord’s presence in any way at all.  The Dark Lord and his clowns or even his demons couldn’t come within five hundred miles of the great talisman which graced Liberty Island.  The Eternal who sculpted her actually sculpted her in memory of their first mother, Eve.

When they landed in New York, Steve told Cassandra that they were going to their one true home; a home they shared before in her previous life.  They were headed to ‘The Hardenbergh’.  The Hardenbergh was the oldest and most distinguished address in all of Ney York located in Manhattan’s Upper West Side.  It was designed by an Eternal who was actually a very popular architect who was involved in the establishment of New York as a worldwide mecca of culture and importance.  The building itself had become an historical landmark and was a beautiful piece of artwork for anyone to see.  The Hardenbergh which had high gables, profusion of dormers, terracotta spandrels, and balconies stood majestic before the entire world to behold as the unknown home of ‘The Eternals’.

Steve took Cassandra to their old home in The Hardenbergh and she loved their huge fourteen room apartment as soon as he opened the door.  The apartment even had hidden doors that all led to the grand hall were The Eternals held their meetings.  The hidden doors were almost unnecessary because anyone and everyone who lived in The Hardenbergh was an Eternal.  Ramon, Tammy, Stephanie and even Judy had an apartment in The Hardenbergh.

Cassandra hugged Steve in the deepest of embraces staring at the home she was starting to remember and loving the man in her arms.  As more and more memories of their lives together flooded her mind, she again thought about a lifetime of puddles.  She suddenly remembered the last time they held each other and thought of puddles and then thought of the clowns Steve spoke softly and said, “Don’t worry, remember, they can never come near the Lady de Liberte.”  He had read her mind; that was his special gift.

He continued, “In The Big Apple, it’s nothing but puddles.”
