Cassandra IV: The Downward Spiral

CASSANDRA IV: THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL

Cassandra had become all but completely emerged in Tammy’s life and drug trade although she did everything but sell drugs herself.  Cassandra had been working as a private duty nurse for two hospice patients when all of a sudden both of them had died in the same week.  Since both patients had died at the same time she was allowed to receive unemployment benefits.  The unemployment checks were smaller than her normal income so Cassandra decided to lower her food budget by indulging in the Crystal Meth drug that Tammy sold known as speed since it lowered your appetite and also because everyone gave it to her for free.  They gave it to her for free to try and garner Cassandra’s support with issues involving Tammy since Tammy respected Cassandra’s opinion and actually sought out Cassandra’s advice on a lot of issues.  Lots of people in the drug world actually started to revere and fear Cassandra almost as much as they did Tammy since Cassandra seemed to be Tammy’s one and only confidant.  Tammy and Cassandra had almost become inseparable.  If Cassandra was awake she was most likely at Tammy’s side.  Tammy was so protective that she would force Cassandra to go home after three days of drug business and tell her to sleep.  Sometimes Cassandra would go home and sometimes she would go out with her posse.  Tammy was, for some reason, overly protective of Cassandra.

Cassandra became enthralled in the world of Chrystal Meth not so much for the drug as for the amazing human creatures it seemed to attract.  She loved most of the people around her from the moment she met them.  Everyone who used the drug was so real and open.  Little did she know that the dark side of some of these very same creatures would reveal its ugly head.  Most of these same people should and would leave the world of Chrystal Meth behind completely.  One person who Cassandra had an extreme affinity for and he also for her was Tammy’s number one hit man named Paige.  It was a very strong rumor that Paige had killed eleven people and almost everyone believed it especially after meeting him in person.  One time Cassandra had noticed a suspicious person in Casa de Esperanza who was up to no good and she immediately went to Paige’s apartment and informed him of the unknown intruder into their precious drug sanctity.  Paige jumped up from his bed with a smile on his face and said, “Perfect! That’s just what I need to wake me up in the morning, to stab somebody.”  You see, Paige’s weapon of choice was a knife and he loved his knives and always carried more than one.

Paige showed his love for Cassandra one day when he sat her down and gave her the most beautiful knife she had ever seen.  The knife had a dark mahogany wood handle and came with its’ own case that snugly and perfectly attached to the belt on her waist.  Cassandra took to wearing the knife wherever she went.  She even wore the knife to nightclubs on the rare occasion that she went out into the normal world and enjoyed its’ nightlife.  Even the doormen at the nightclubs around town knew who Cassandra was and she relished and enjoyed all the benefits of being a local celebrity.

One night that Cassandra was in a mood to enjoy the evening and have some fun turned out to be a lot more than she expected.  Cassandra went out with her friends and for the first time in a while didn’t have her knife attached to her side.  The nightclub bouncers had started giving her warnings about wearing her knife and informed her that their bosses were giving them flack for letting her in the clubs with it on, so this particular night she left it at home.  It turned out to be a good thing.  For had she had her knife, things may have gone a whole lot differently.

So when Cassandra and her posse of local drug celebrities walked into the nightclub, everyone noticed them.  Cassandra was in the front as her group stopped to survey the crowd.  Cassandra stood there in her attire which was comprised of her always worn eel skin cowboy boots with tight fitting jeans with a white tee shirt of polished cotton topped with a tan suede vest, and a suede belt to match.  She also wore her Clark Kent glasses with the lenses taken out to reveal a face flawlessly done with an impeccable makeup job.  All of the men in the club were immediately attracted to Cassandra’s look and extremely intrigued by her posse that seemed to cater to her like a queen.

Cassandra moved first as her posse followed.  Then all of a sudden she stopped and they all stopped with her.  She saw him across the room sitting at the bar drinking all alone.  It was none other than Steve himself.  The man she had immediately fallen in love with who had asked her to sit down and ‘talk to her’ on that fateful night in the apartment below hers in Casa de Esperanza.  She ordered and paid for drinks for her entire crew as she always did and then excused herself to go and talk to Steve.  He seemed to be waiting.  He seemed to be waiting for her; and who was she to disappoint.

She walked up to Steve feeling like a million bucks in her tight fitting jeans and on top of the world unlike the naïve girl that he originally met.  He didn’t even look up as he said, “Hello Cassandra, I see your world has changed.”  She stared at him as he looked at his drink and refused to look up at her and once again fell deeply in love with his deep and hypnotic voice.  Finally she said, “So where did you disappear too? I thought I would see you again a lot sooner than this.”  He slowly responded in his deep voice seeming to know the effect it had on Cassandra’s entire being, he seemed to know that he owned her, she was powerless when she was around him; he turned and looked deep into her eyes and said, “I will be there when I am supposed to be there and eventually I will be there always.”  Cassandra’s knees got weak as for the first time he mentioned a future, a future she had hoped for, a future with him.

They continued to stare at each other as he invited her to sit down.  She sat down and looked deep into his sapphire blue eyes as he seemed to undress her soul.  She was once again a naïve little girl under his powerful stare.  He finally smiled and then chuckled as he told her, “You need to relax my little flower.”  She got her strength back at his cheesy line and said, “A flower with thorns Mister Steve.”  He said, “Oh my, I guess so! Good thing I wear gloves.” As he grabbed her from her barstool by quickly placing his hand in the small of her back and lifting her to his quick standing body and kissing her deeply while all of her strength and resolve was lost to his desire and all her desire was given to his strength and resolve.

He finally released her and continued to hold her up as if he knew she was unable to stand on her own.  He again looked deep into her eyes signing the ethereal contract of eternal love with his intense stare as a small tear came out of the corner of her right eye.  He wiped the tear away and then released her and bent closely to whisper in her ear, “This is only the beginning of our love in this lifetime. I have been waiting for a very long time for you to return.”

He told her, “I will see you soon”, and then he walked away as she was unable to move. Her posse who had been quietly and politely watching from a distance ran up as soon as Steve was out of eyesight and couldn’t believe what they had witnessed.  Her friend Shannon who led the posse in running up to her spoke first, “Who was that!?!”  Cassandra told them of how she had met Steve in her withdrawn and wispy voice and said he seemed to have some power over her.  She confessed to them all that she truly felt she was in love with him and would spend the rest of her life with him.  She had no idea at the time, she had spent many lifetimes with him and would spend ‘all’ of her lives with him.  He was indeed, her soulmate.

Cassandra and her crew had a great time the rest of the evening while dancing and drinking and then three girls who had been dancing close to them seemed to take a sudden interest in them.  They were standing off to the side and whispering and then laughing as they pointed at Cassandra and her crew.  Cassandra in her new aggressive Chrystal Meth charged attitude was not someone these girls wanted to mess with and usually her knife did the talking but tonight she wasn’t wearing it and these girls were in for a surprise.

Then Cassandra went to the bathroom and one of the three secretive and openly cackling girls quickly stepped in front of Cassandra and caused her to spill her drink.  The drink had spilled all over Cassandra’s new suede vest and she was pissed.  She took a few breaths and calmed down and excused herself to go pass them and avoid a confrontation.  The three girls weren’t having it; they blocked her way.  The leader of the three girls said, “Listen miss Ca-saaaan-draaaaah! Yeah, we know your name and we’ve seen you around town and we know you think you’re the shit but you’re not! ...”  Cassandra started to get more pissed off!  Heads were gonna roll. It was like in her mind she was becoming Tammy in all of her tiger power.  Cassandra didn’t even let the lead girl finish her speech.  In a catlike move unfamiliar to even herself, Cassandra spun around and kicked the lead girl in the side of her head and then the lead girl went flying into the barstools on the side of the wall as the second girl stepped up and Cassandra slapped her with a left handed backhand and then punched her with all of her might with her right fist; the girl fell right where she stood as the third girl went to kick Cassandra as Cassandra quickly stepped back and then cupped and webbed her own hands together and caught the girls kicking foot as it missed and dropped and then flipped her in the air just like in the movies as the girl flew up and landed dead flat on her back.  The crowd was mesmerized by the fight and the quick action.  Cassandra stood their panting and pissed.  At the same time she was pissed she was also exhilarated with the energy from beating these three girls in a glorious fight.  Cassandra had a smile on her face as her posse ran up and surrounded her and asked if she was okay while the girls lay in fear on the floor.

Suddenly a bouncer grabbed Cassandra and said, “That’s it Cassandra, you’ve been nothing but trouble with your crew and your knife carrying ways!  You are out of here!  Take your posse and leave!”  Cassandra and her crew were ceremoniously thrown out of the club as everyone watched.  Cassandra couldn’t believe the turn of events of the night and the roller coaster ride it was.  First, she finally saw Steve again and it was everything she could have hoped for and then she was attacked by three female hyenas that she was forced to get violent with; all she could think of was, thank God she didn’t have her knife, she may have ended up in big trouble.  And when would she see Steve again.
