YOU DO ME FIRST
by

So let me get this straight… You’ve heard the old tried and true method of
the selfish ones? The ones who always
say ‘You first’ when it comes to trust and giving. They are generally wounded souls who have had
trust yanked from their being at an earlier stage in life or they could just be
selfish souls who have decided to never give anything for nothing. Either way you’re dealing with a harsh,
unfair, and unyielding negotiator.
So what we as human souls are dealing with
in God, who himself wants us to prove ourselves worthy before he reveals his
kingdom and all his glory, is ANOTHER ‘you
do me first’ kind of individual. Are
you kidding me! Have you met these ‘you
do me first’ people? They are not
the kind of folks I would have running things.
So me being who I AM and not willing to
bow down to anybody or anything from a very early age, I told God, “SO! NO! YOU
DO ME FIRST!” My maternal grandmother
would often call me ‘So’ as a child because even she knew I didn’t take to any
kind of threats at all… I would just say, ‘So’ to all of her threats. “No Dinner”, “So”; “No play”, “So”… “So, so,
so…” You couldn’t make me do anything if
I didn’t want too. I considered it early
training and I think so did she.
So you know what God did when I told him,
“YOU do ME first”? That big ‘good for everything’, ‘high-down son-of-a-gun’ said “Okay”. All of a sudden He snatched me up by my
ankles and shook me all around upside down and was saying things like, “I’m
going FIRST, I’m going FIRST rookie!”, (shake, shake) “Is this good for you!”, (shake)
“Yeah, Mister Pick & Choose”, (shake)
“I’m getting so sick (shake) and tired (shake) of your mouth (shake)”… Then he threw me down on a strange road in
San Diego. Then he trailed off saying,
“You better start doing what I tell you to do too! I didn’t send you down here for nothing! Pick THAT!
Choose THAT!” I couldn’t really
say ‘so’ after that. I was left a little
confused to be quite honest with you… I
had to go home and lick my wounds to be completely honest. He won that one. I’m going to give that one to Him.
So you can be like me and tell God what
the selfish and untrusting tell many and say, “You do me first”, but I have to
warn you… Not too many can survive the
SHAKE! Yes, I survived! I heard you.
I’m just a little rattled, that’s all.
