“ARE YOU REGISTERED TO
VOTE?”
by

I encountered a problem this weekend that
I have to endure over and over again over the recent years. Whenever the ‘occupy’ people decide to come
out of their tents and grab clipboards and encourage people to vote it always
annoys me personally. It annoys me
personally because they always seem to be up in my face. I like to have the RIGHT to decide who I want
up in my face… And when I exercise my
RIGHT and make the decision to have someone up in my face, it’s generally never
any of these people I run into with ‘their’ clipboards.
First off, asking me if I’m ‘registered to
vote’, is in my opinion a personal question.
I came to the grocery store to buy some milk and then I’m going
home… I came here to get a book from the
library and then I’m going home… I came
to pick up my dry cleaning and then I’m going home… I did NOT come here to discuss my politics
with you. I did not come here to discuss
with YOU that I feel voting is a global governmental panacea that gives people
the false feeling of believing they are making a difference! They are not!
And guess what? THIS IS MY RIGHT!
It is my RIGHT to have this opinion and feel this way. I choose not to let myself be drugged by the
falsehood that a vote cast from me counts.
I have a long history in my younger days
of dealing heavily in politics and came to the sturdy conclusion that it was
all a sham. Even the voting populace
plays a part in the fiasco called government…
I have worked on a grass roots Michael Dukakis campaign, attended
political functions, worked on community ballot issues that affected various
issues facing my communities and came to the solid conclusion that it was all a
serious waste of MY time… And that is my
RIGHT! And by not letting myself be
drugged by the pseudo panacea labeled, ‘I cast my vote’, I see so much more
clearly.
So this weekend a woman approaches me
picking up my dry cleaning with some of the dirt from her ‘Occupy Colorado’
lifestyle still on her and asked me was I registered to vote, I said, “I don’t
VOTE” and kept on about my business… As
I go to the cleaners next door she hobbles up next to me and asks me through
her cigarette stained teeth, “Can I ask why you don’t vote?” Without missing a
beat I said, “Because it’s a CROCK of SHIT!”
AGAIN, this is my RIGHT! I find
myself having to explain to this clearly mentally challenged individual. She’s perpetrating a role of helping people
to achieve their RIGHTS while she is trampling on mine; my RIGHT to be left
alone with my opinions.
I then get in my car and go to the grocery
store… As I enter the grocery store,
another clearly challenged person asks me, “Are you registered to vote?” I
IGNORE her because I just want to buy my milk and go home… I got work to do… Well SOME white folk’s genetic DNA of racism
flares up when a black man ignores them and hers did! How dare I ignore HER! She found it an intolerable act on my part. So she
then shouts at the back of my head, “Are you registered to vote”. Now she’s taking away MY RIGHT just to be
able to go buy some milk without being harassed by a solicitor. Upon leaving the store, the other girl who’s
racist DNA sends her to another level of correcting this black man ignoring a
white woman and she has clearly been told about me so she comes in as the heavy
hitter retard that has no filter on being RUDE.
This girl says, “Sir, are you registered to vote.” I ignore this one as well because I just want
to get home and not have any political discussion with defectives… She then yells at the back of my head, “SIR,
ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE!” I still
ignore her. She is livid. Then she SCREAMS at the top of her lungs,
“HAVE A NICE DAY!” That’s it, peaceful
milk shopping trip interrupted and the teacher side of me has been called into
action.
I turned and walked towards her as some of
the free coffee they served her at their ‘occupy’ tents that morning almost runs
down her leg and told her, “You know, you can say ‘have a nice day’ to someone
and we all know you’re NOT saying, ‘have a nice day’, and that’s what you’re
doing so let me tell you, HAVE A NICE DAY!”
I still don’t know if I got through her thick Neanderthal skull with the
true meaning of what I wanted her to do with the rest of HER day…
What bothers me about these people is that
they are constantly trying to prop up a ‘belief’ that in truth, they are constantly
trampling upon. I should have the RIGHT
to shop without being HARASSED. If you
want to help people to register to vote then put up a table with a sign and all
the literate people who choose to vote will read your sign and then walk up and
accept the DRUG! I choose to exercise my
RIGHT and NOT accept it. In short, don’t
profess to be the principle, BE THE PRINCIPLE!
