THE COLOR GAME

There is something extremely more powerful
than the elements coming together on our planet after a rainstorm and creating
a rainbow then just the reflection of light.
It seems to me that some presence is trying to shine a light on the fact
that we are too caught up on color in this world and also at the same time
trying to remind us how beautiful color is in ALL it’s different shades and
pastels.
We recently had a white man shoot down
innocent people at what he considered a black church. The commentary in our world is often focused
on them and they which too often refers to people of colors. In all my living years I have yet to meet two
people of the same color who are the same person and are responsible for the
same thing. And still, in our world, you
still have people of one color blaming all people of another color for the
actions they believe are the responsibility of ‘one’ color as a whole.
And in my knowledge of this color game
played on this planet, it angers me when I see or hear a white person telling a
black person that this is not about color.
The truth of the matter is, that’s all this planet is mostly about as
our oft present rainbow tells and reminds us of.
I watched a documentary once of a prison in Louisiana nicknamed Angola
because it was built on the site of an old plantation filled with Angolan
slaves. At the time of this documentary
the prison population was eighty seven percent black. There was one offender in this documentary
who was up for parole after serving twenty years on a sixty year sentence for a
savage rape, of which, he had clearly been proven innocent. The two white women who had accused this
black man of this ‘savage’ rape were examined by a doctor after said rape and
determined to still be ‘virgins’, as in their hymens were completely intact. When the black prisoner had been put in a
line-up twenty years earlier he was the only one in the line-up who was
severely beaten and bloodied and the only one in handcuffs. It was presumed that he was beaten and handcuffed
and displayed in this manner in front of the two white women to identify because
when asked if they could identify the man who supposedly raped them, the two
white women said, “All n*ggers look alike!”
For some reason, which brought me to tears, this man was denied
parole. So when I, like Jill Scott, say
I need to see proof before
I publicly convict a man! Now you know
why. The color game.
So the next time you see a Rainbow I hope
you realize the planet we live on and the fact that someone is trying to tell
all of us that we are people of ALL colors on this planet and when we learn how
to get along it can and will be a beautiful thing. Colors are beautiful when they are all placed
and shown ‘together’. It also strikes me
as funny that rainbows come after rain showers; it seems to me that the rain
may be some presence trying to baptize and cleanse the planet with water and
then send a message. This is the ‘Rainbow
Planet’, this is the planet of COLOR!
And when all the colors get along, we may receive our pot of gold.
